In about 1997, my girlfriend and I, plus another couple went to Miss MoneyPennies in Birmingham. Word on the street was it was the hardest club to get in to in England and when we got there, there were 200 people in 3 queues. Guestlist, members and Jo public, me. My girlfriend of the time looked like Belinda Carlisle and I thought id use it and got them to follow me to the front of the queue, where I was stopped by a very large gentleman. I said ' Dude, how do I get us in here', 'queue like everyone else', was his reply.
'I'm not everyone else, 40 quid sound good', 'save your money and get two rum and cokes when you're in there'. As we went through the barrier, I looked back at 200 people looking and thinking, who tf was that, it was a cracking night.
I am pretty sure these boys didn’t get in!

Berghain is a place for real techno lovers, arty freaks and decadent minds. For Berliners by place of residence or by state of mind. I mean very liberal humans. It is for people who look like Bergheim every day so they don't need to worry about outfit.
Don't be surprised by selection. It is just about creating coherent public that "insiders" would feel comfy. Imagine bouncer situation when he need find out of it a person is someone who will be happy inside or maybe a tourist who just found Berghain on 10-To-Do list on TripAdvisor, group of good girls or typical straight guys looking for hook up?
Berlin as a city already have super specific scene and Berghain is like a cherry on top of it in case of… however there are few parties or clubs that I like much more and that are much easier to handle.
It is like with museums. Louvre can be so tiring with it's crowd, size and over the top fame that some small museums in Marais or Montmartre can give you much more fun, vibe and experience!
